Last week in Thailand was anything but your typical week: there was turmoil in an American side that, though they managed to win the first three challenges, finally had their "0" let go by the Brits in a running of the relics. The ensuing nominations brought to light the twisted history of Cara Maria and Laurel - rivals to begin with and even more so now, after their blowup in night court. But we were not prepared for what happened at the proving ground when the one who won nine eliminations to start her career, and who lost her most recent one as a competitor in Thailand. Her duel with Ninja Natalie had just about everything: a close battle, a premature over-the-top celebration and a shocking conclusion that capped off an incredible 72 hours for the American Ninja Warrior fandom.
Undoubtedly, everyone was shook by that shock result... and along with Wes getting sent home by Bear the previous week and everything that went down last season it proved anything can happen. And this week, the attention turns to the latest in the line of Challenge villains and the one who has emerged as the new big dog of the next wave of competitors, as after what's happened in his first two appearances we can only wonder what Mr. Paulie will do next. Swimming will once again take center stage as the players look to prove themselves in the sea for the second time this fall... and there will be many who will struggle. And if you love the sight of gamblers going crazy at the craps table and who also figure out math as well... wait until you see who faces who in elimination.
Understandably, this Challenge season shares a night with two of the aforementioned reality titans above... and we know that a lot of you in the reality fandom had a choice on Wednesday of whether to watch this week's episode or watch CBS for that Survivor/Big Brother doubleheader and this week's Challenge will obviously get lost in the buzz of the biggest night in reality TV. So, Jemmye's theory that anyone who steals money after winning a Challenge title stays true to that word as Johnny Bananas gets knocked out by Theo in elimination... and as it was last week with Laurel, it's a small mistake that costs him his spot in the game. Quite a night.
But on a related footnote to all this... you might remember what happened that didn't air at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. But as much as it hurts for a lot of you to see Wes, Laurel and Bananas get knocked out this early - much like what we had with Ashley, Bananas and CT last season, the good news is that they made it to the big show back in June. But it doesn't mean that Bananas will leave our screens: we'll be taking a two-part look at his first season hosting NBC's 1st Look TV coming up later in our coverage.
Tomorrow - later today for many of you, we'll have the Pulse of Ex On The Beach as another of Bananas' enemies pursues a new romance, and his Final Reckoning partner & his baby mama join in on the fun on How Far is Tattoo Far?. Plus, a man who's not fared well Challenge-wise but certainly has in dating land is getting another shot at love, as we'll join the man known as "Mr. Chocolate" as he gets to Flex it with his Ex. And this will offer the bridge to what promises to be THE must-see MTV event of the fall as two people related to these people join daytime's biggest show - more on that coming ahead on your Sunday... but for now, enjoy your Saturday everyone.
